Pérez del Castillo is a notable Uruguayan diplomat and economist who represented Uruguay at the United Nations and was part of the administrations of President Julio María Sanguinetti. He served as the Director General for Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1985 to 1987 and held the position of Undersecretary in the same ministry from 1995 to 1998. Prior to his national roles, he coordinated the United Nations International Economic Program at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in 1982. He has a strong academic background in economics, having studied at the Lycée Français de Montevideo and in Australia, where he earned his degree. Pérez del Castillo has also worked in various governmental roles, including as an economic and agricultural advisor at the Uruguayan Embassy in Canberra.
