Persio Maldonado Sánchez

Persio Maldonado Sánchez is the president of the Sociedad Dominicana de Diarios (SDD) and the director general of the newspaper El Nuevo Diario. He recently emphasized the urgent need for political and business leaders in the Americas to recognize that the challenges faced by the media are closely intertwined with the state of democracy in the region. His remarks were made during the 81st Annual General Assembly of the Inter-American Press Society (SIP), where he highlighted the rise of misinformation and the importance of a committed press in upholding democratic values. Maldonado Sánchez is also advocating for a modernized communication law in the Dominican Republic to address the realities of the digital ecosystem.
