He was involved in the 1970 assassination attempt on Chiang Ching-kuo, which he viewed as a necessary act of defiance against the oppressive regime. After years in exile, he returned to Taiwan to lead the Taiwan Association for Human Rights, championing the integration of human rights into the nation's policy and fostering a new generation of activists.
