
Peter Minuit
Peter Minuit was a Dutch colonial governor of New Netherland, best known for his purchase of Manhattan Island from the Native American Lenape tribe in 1626 for goods valued at about 24 dollars. His transaction is often cited as one of the most significant in American history, marking the beginning of European settlement in what would become New York City.
