Petr Ginz

artist Czech Republic

Petr Ginz was a gifted young Jewish boy born in Prague in 1928, who showed remarkable creativity and intellect from an early age. He wrote stories, poems, and kept detailed journals, all while nurturing a passion for adventure inspired by authors like Jules Verne. Even during his time in the Theresienstadt ghetto, Petr continued to produce art and literature, founding an underground newspaper and meticulously documenting life in the ghetto. Tragically, he was deported to Auschwitz at the age of 16, where he perished. His artwork, particularly the painting 'Moon Landscape,' gained international recognition when it was taken into space by Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon, symbolizing the resilience of the human spirit during the Holocaust.
