Colonel Pham Ngoc Thao was a prominent figure in the Vietnamese revolutionary movement, known for his exceptional intelligence work during the Vietnam War. Born in 1922 into a wealthy Catholic family in Long Xuyen, he renounced his French citizenship to fight against colonial forces. Thao infiltrated the South Vietnamese government as a high-ranking officer, contributing significantly to the political upheaval that led to the overthrow of President Ngo Dinh Diem in 1963. He is remembered for his bravery, intellect, and dedication to the cause, ultimately sacrificing his life in the line of duty at the age of 43.
