Pharnaces II

Pharnaces II was a king of Pontus and the son of the famous Mithridates VI. He is known for his ambitious attempts to expand his kingdom and overshadow the legacy of Alexander the Great. His military endeavors brought him into direct conflict with Julius Caesar, leading to the Battle of Zela in 47 BC, where he was decisively defeated. Caesar famously reported his swift victory with the phrase 'Veni, vidi, vici' ('I came, I saw, I conquered'). Despite his initial aspirations, Pharnaces's legacy is often overshadowed by his defeat and the subsequent historical narrative shaped by Caesar.
