Phineas T. Barnum was a 19th-century American showman and businessman, best known for founding the Barnum & Bailey Circus and for his role in popularizing various forms of entertainment. He famously captured and displayed beluga whales, contributing to early practices of keeping marine animals in captivity, which would later be criticized for their inhumane treatment.
