Queen Maya, also known as Maya Devi, was the mother of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha. She is revered in Buddhist tradition for her miraculous conception and the birth of Siddhartha, who was prophesied to become either a great king or a great spiritual leader. Maya's life and her role in Siddhartha's early years are celebrated during Vesak, the day that commemorates the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and passing.
