Quemil Yambay was a celebrated Paraguayan musician, born on March 10, 1938, in Tupa’ora. Renowned for his contributions to the genre of purahe’i jahe’o, he gained fame with his polka 'Lidia Mariana,' which earned him the National Music Award in 2013. Over a career spanning nearly six decades, Yambay composed numerous beloved songs that incorporated humor and nostalgia, often using both Guaraní and Spanish in his lyrics. Despite losing his sight in 1984, he continued to perform, captivating audiences with his unique ability to imitate animal sounds. He was honored as a Living Human Treasure by UNESCO and received multiple accolades for his artistic contributions. Yambay passed away at the age of 87, leaving behind a rich legacy in Paraguayan music.
