R A S Macallister

R A S Macallister was a prominent Irish archaeologist and professor of Celtic archaeology at University College Dublin from 1909 to 1940. He is best known for his pioneering studies of the Hill of Tara, which he argued should be approached with respect due to its rich historical context. Macallister was a vocal critic of the 1899 excavations led by the British Israelites, labeling them a 'national calamity' and advocating for responsible archaeological practices that preserved Ireland's cultural heritage.
