Rachel Velden

Rachel Velden, an 87-year-old community advocate from Kaikohe, is dedicated to improving the lives of local children facing socio-economic challenges. Since 2018, she has been actively involved in addressing truancy and promoting literacy, believing that reading is foundational to children's success in life. A mother of six and grandmother of eleven, Velden's commitment to the wellbeing of children extends beyond her own family. Despite the stresses she encounters, her passion for helping children persevere, as she strives to gain their trust and encourage their potential.
