Rafael Barroeta Baca

Rafael Barroeta Baca was a prominent Costa Rican citizen born in 1798 in Cartago, who played a significant role in the country's transition from a colony to a republic. He amassed a considerable fortune and established a scholarship fund for youth in his family upon his death in 1880. Despite his contributions to Costa Rican society, including serving as the Fiscal of the Supreme Court and briefly as a vice president, his legacy has been largely overlooked by historians. Barroeta's tomb in the General Cemetery is now in a state of neglect, symbolizing a broader cultural amnesia regarding the nation's historical figures.
