Rahat Aliyev was a prominent Kazakh politician and diplomat, known for his roles as the Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Austria. He was also the son-in-law of Kazakhstan's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. In 2007, Aliyev faced multiple criminal charges, prompting him to flee Kazakhstan.
