Ramesh Chokla

Ramesh Chokla was a renowned photographer known for his pivotal role in documenting the history of the United Arab Emirates. Having arrived in Dubai in 1965, he became one of the first photographers to capture significant national events, including the iconic moment of the UAE's formation on December 2, 1971. His work not only chronicled the establishment of the nation but also preserved its cultural and historical milestones. Chokla's photographs have become essential visual references in the narrative of the UAE's development, making him a key figure in the cultural heritage of the country. He passed away at the age of 87 after battling heart complications.
