Ramiz Mehdiyev

Ramiz Mehdiyev, a prominent figure in Azerbaijani politics, served as the head of the presidential administration from 1995 to 2019, closely aligning himself with the leadership of Heydar and Ilham Aliyev. Born in 1936, Mehdiyev's political career began in the 1970s when he worked in various capacities within the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, including as a secretary of the Central Committee. After his tenure in the presidential administration, he became the president of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, a position he held until 2022. Recently, he made headlines as he was placed under house arrest for four months on charges of attempting to seize power, treason, and money laundering.
