Ramses
Ramses, often referred to as Ramses II or Ramses the Great, was the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt, reigning from 1279 to 1213 BC. He is one of the most celebrated and powerful pharaohs in Egyptian history, known for his extensive building programs, including the magnificent temples at Abu Simbel, and for his military achievements, particularly the Battle of Kadesh against the Hittites. His reign is often regarded as the height of ancient Egyptian civilization, and he is famous for his long-lived legacy, which includes numerous monumental inscriptions and statues. Ramses II was also known for his extensive family, with many wives and children, and his efforts to promote the worship of the sun god Ra, which is celebrated during the solar alignment phenomena at his temples, particularly at Abu Simbel.
