
Rebeca Grynspan Mayufis
Rebeca Grynspan Mayufis, a prominent Costa Rican economist and diplomat, currently serves as the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Born in 1954, Grynspan has an extensive background in public service, having previously held the position of Vice President of Costa Rica from 1994 to 1998. She has worked in various capacities within the United Nations system, including as the Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and as the Director of the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Grynspan is highly regarded for her advocacy of multilateralism and reforming international institutions to address contemporary global challenges. She was recently mentioned as a potential candidate to succeed António Guterres as the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
