Renty
Renty was an enslaved man captured in the 19th century, whose image was taken in a series of daguerreotypes by Harvard biologist Louis Agassiz. These photographs, believed to be the earliest of enslaved individuals, were taken without his consent and used to propagate racist scientific theories. Renty is remembered as a symbol of the struggle for recognition and dignity for enslaved people.
