Republic of North Macedonia

The Republic of North Macedonia, formerly known as the Republic of Macedonia, is a Balkan nation that became a member of NATO on March 27, 2020. This milestone followed decades of aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration, which began shortly after the country gained independence in 1991. North Macedonia's accession to NATO was seen as a significant step towards enhancing its national security, particularly against the backdrop of regional instability and external threats. The membership was formalized after the historic Prespa Agreement with Greece, which resolved a long-standing name dispute.
