Rhenê Rodrigues Martins was a garçom who tragically lost his life in July 2022 when he was struck by a speeding municipal vehicle while crossing at a designated pedestrian crossing on the BRT Transoeste. His death highlighted ongoing issues with traffic safety and accountability in Rio de Janeiro, as the driver did not stop to assist him, and his family has yet to receive compensation from the municipality.
