Richard William (RW) Johnson (1943 – 2026) was a prominent South African liberal public intellectual, journalist, and author who made significant contributions to the intellectual discourse in South Africa. Known for his fearless criticism of both the left and the right, Johnson authored numerous influential works, including 'How Long Will South Africa Survive? The Looming Crisis' and served as a fellow at Magdalen College, Oxford for 26 years. He returned to South Africa in 1995 to advocate for liberal principles and was a founder of the Helen Suzman Foundation.
