Rickard

Tawhai Rickard is a sculptor whose work is deeply rooted in historical Māori narratives. He recently gained attention for his innovative installation at the Tauranga Art Gallery, where he combined his artistic vision with that of partner Lewis-Rickard. His sculptures often address themes of colonization and cultural identity, aiming to make unseen histories known. In his latest piece, he transforms iconic characters from the 1960s Batman series into Māori superheroes, using whimsical elements to provoke thought and encourage dialogue about cultural unity.
