Rishanu Santokhi

Rishanu Santokhi, the son of former Surinamese president Chandrikapersad Santokhi, was recently in the news after being arrested by police upon his arrival at Zanderij Airport. He was deported by U.S. authorities after being arrested in Miami for issues related to his residency status. In November 2024, he became the subject of a criminal complaint by the Public Prosecution Service for defamation and slander due to statements made during a radio interview, where he alleged misconduct involving his father and the prosecutor-general. His controversial remarks led to his suspension and subsequent dismissal from his position at the Surinamese consulate in Miami.
