Robert C. Gallo is a renowned American biomedical researcher best known for his pivotal role in the discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as the causative agent of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). His groundbreaking work in virology has significantly advanced our understanding of viral infections and has contributed to the development of diagnostic tests and therapies for HIV/AIDS.
