Rodrigo de Triana

Rodrigo de Triana, a Spanish sailor from Seville, is celebrated as the first European to sight land in the Americas when he famously cried 'tierra!' during Christopher Columbus's expedition on October 12, 1492. His discovery of what would later be known as the Bahamas marked a pivotal moment in history. Despite Columbus’s attempts to claim credit for the discovery, Triana's contribution has been recognized, and he is honored as a folk hero in Seville, where a street and a statue commemorate his achievement.
