He developed a close friendship with singer Liam Payne, despite their contrasting lifestyles, as Roger is teetotal while Liam was known for his partying. After Liam's tragic death in October 2022, Roger faced manslaughter charges related to the singer's care, which he vehemently contests. He is currently pursuing a defamation case against Liam's father, Geoff Payne, for false claims regarding his involvement in Liam's care.
