Romeu di Lurdes was a beloved Cape Verdean artist, known for his poignant songs that celebrated women and engaged with social and political issues. Born in the municipality of Santa Cruz and spending much of his life in Praia, he made significant contributions to the cultural landscape of Cabo Verde through his music, poetry, and activism. He was also a member of the Partido do Trabalho e da Solidariedade and earned a degree in Cultural Heritage Management from the University of Cape Verde. His untimely death in Portugal, where he was scheduled to perform, has led to an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow artists, and government officials, who recognized his profound impact on Cape Verdean identity and culture.
