Rommy Joel

Rommy Joel is a former platoon leader of the Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA), known for his role in the Bougainville Civil War during the late 1980s and 1990s. He gained recognition for his bravery and leadership, as well as his memorable appearance with dreadlocked hair and kind eyes. Recently, he reunited with journalist Mike Bowers, who he escorted safely through dangerous terrain during the conflict nearly three decades ago, reflecting on the lasting impacts of the war and the hope for Bougainville's independence.
