Roque Mata
Roque Mata was a prominent agronomist and pioneer in the coffee industry of Costa Rica, known for his significant contributions towards the establishment of the Denomination of Origin for Tarrazú coffee. He dedicated 15 years to achieving this certification, which was finally granted in February 2019, thereby enhancing the reputation and market for coffee produced in the Tarrazú region. Throughout his life, Mata was involved in various agricultural initiatives and associations, advocating for quality and sustainability in coffee production. He was also remembered as a devoted family man and an active participant in community and religious organizations. Mata passed away on November 4, 2023, at the age of 78.
