Rosa von Praunheim

Rosa von Praunheim is a pioneering German filmmaker and LGBTQ+ activist, known for his influential works that challenge societal norms and advocate for gay rights. He gained prominence with his 1971 film 'Nicht der Homosexuelle ist pervers, sondern die Situation, in der er lebt' ('It’s Not the Homosexual Who Is Perverse, But the Situation in Which He Lives'), which addressed the struggles of the gay community in Germany. Von Praunheim also founded the SchwuZ nightclub in Berlin in 1977, which became a crucial safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals and a hub for queer culture.
