Ruby Smith

advocate New Zealand

Ruby Smith was a dedicated ovarian cancer advocate and a talented musician from the Northland region of New Zealand. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she used her experience to raise awareness and support for others battling the disease. In 2024, she ran the Kerikeri Half Marathon to raise funds for the Ovarian Cancer Foundation NZ, and she gifted her song 'Dig Deeper' to the foundation on World Ovarian Cancer Day in May 2025, emphasizing the importance of inner strength during difficult times. A member of the Ngāpuhi iwi, Smith particularly encouraged Māori and Pasifika women to seek medical help for ovarian cancer symptoms, which often go undiagnosed until it's too late. Sadly, she passed away after a three-year fight against cancer, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy and support for those affected by the disease.
