S. Milošević

politician Serbia

Slobodan Milošević was a Serbian politician and the President of Serbia from 1989 to 1997, and later the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1997 to 2000. He played a key role during the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s, where his nationalistic policies and leadership were central to the conflicts that led to ethnic tensions and violence in the region. Often referred to as a controversial figure, Milošević was accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, which resulted in his indictment by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in 1999. His legacy remains deeply polarizing in the Balkans, as he is viewed by some as a defender of Serbian interests and by others as a perpetrator of ethnic cleansing and aggression.
