Salmon P. Chase

Salmon P. Chase was an American politician and jurist who served as the Secretary of the Treasury under President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. He was a key figure in the establishment of the National Banking System and played a significant role in financing the war effort. Chase later became Chief Justice of the United States, where he oversaw several important cases, including those related to Reconstruction.
