Sami Al-Sa'i

Sami Al-Sa'i, a 46-year-old former journalist from Tulkarem, was detained by the Israeli military in January 2024 for attempting to coordinate interviews with Hamas activists. He was held in administrative detention for 16 months without formal charges before his release in the summer. In a recent interview with BBC, Al-Sa'i recounted severe sexual and physical abuse during his time in Magido Prison, claiming he was assaulted by prison guards. His decision to speak out has been particularly courageous given the conservative nature of Palestinian society, where such revelations can lead to social ostracism.
