Samir Flores Soberanes
Samir Flores Soberanes was a prominent Nahuatl farmer and activist in Mexico, known for his fierce advocacy for land rights and environmental protection. He was a member of the Assembly of the Peoples of Morelos and the National Indigenous Congress, opposing detrimental projects like the Integral Morelos Project, which threatened local ecosystems and communities. His outspoken criticism of the government, particularly President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, regarding the continuation of such projects led to his assassination on February 20, 2019, in Amilcingo, Morelos. Samir's death remains a symbol of the struggle for justice and the rights of indigenous communities in Mexico.
