Santa Clara
Santa Clara, born in 1194 in Assisi, Italy, was a prominent figure in the Franciscan tradition and the founder of the Order of Poor Ladies, later known as the Poor Clares. She is celebrated for her commitment to a life of poverty, prayer, and service, mirroring the teachings of her mentor, Saint Francis of Assisi. Known for her strong will and faith, she famously resisted the advances of Frederick II, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, to protect her convent's way of life. Her legacy endures through her contributions to monasticism and the establishment of a religious community that emphasized simplicity and devotion.
