Sebastiano Serlio
Sebastiano Serlio (1475 c.1554) was an influential Italian painter, scholar, and Renaissance architect best known for his seminal work 'The Seven Books of Architecture', published between 1537 and 1551. His treatise outlined the principles of classical architecture and ornamentation, including the five classical orders: Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, and Composite. Serlio's ideas significantly shaped Renaissance architectural language and practice, particularly in how buildings were designed and understood. His designs, such as the Serlian pilaster, were adopted by later architects, including Diego de Porres in Guatemala, marking a lasting impact on architectural aesthetics.
