Semyon Dezhnev

Semyon Dezhnev was a Russian explorer and navigator of the 17th century, renowned for his pioneering journeys in the Arctic and his significant contributions to the exploration of Siberia and the Bering Strait. He is particularly noted for being the first European to sail through the Bering Strait and to have documented the existence of the Diomede Islands, which are named in part after him.
