Serafim Riem

Serafim Riem was a pioneering environmentalist in Portugal, known for his unwavering commitment to nature conservation and biodiversity. Born and raised in Porto, Riem was instrumental in founding several key environmental organizations, including Quercus and FAPAS, and he actively campaigned against harmful practices such as monoculture plantations. His work spanned decades, during which he became a prominent figure in the Portuguese environmental movement, advocating for the protection of forests and wildlife. Riem's dedication earned him recognition, including the International Terras Sem Sombra Prize in 2014. He passed away at the age of 72, leaving a profound legacy in environmental activism.
