Serge Lifar

Serge Lifar was a prominent Ukrainian-born ballet dancer and choreographer who significantly transformed the Paris Opera Ballet during his 26-year tenure as its director. Rising to fame after joining the Ballets Russes, Lifar is credited with pioneering neoclassical ballet and introducing innovative choreography that blended classical and modern techniques. His performances and works, such as 'Prometheus' and 'Icarus,' showcased a new image of strong and emancipated female characters and emphasized the importance of male roles in ballet.
