Sergey Ovsyannikov

Sergey Ovsyannikov is a Belarusian welder who made headlines after going missing in combat while serving with the Russian military. He signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense in December 2023 and was deployed to a military unit in Rostov Oblast. His service was cut short after only a month, during which he underwent training and was sent to the front lines. Ovsyannikov last communicated with his family on January 30, 2024, from the village of Klyonovo in the Bakhmut region, where he was reportedly caught in a mortar attack. Despite hopes that he might have been captured by Ukrainian forces, more than a year has passed since his disappearance without any confirmed sighting. Prior to his military service, he worked as a welder at OAO 'Brestmetallmontazh' and had a history of legal troubles related to border crossing and drug-related offenses.
