Sérgio Bernardes (1919-2002) was a renowned Brazilian modernist architect known for his innovative designs and urban planning concepts. A graduate of the old National Faculty of Architecture at the University of Brazil, Bernardes left a significant mark on Rio de Janeiro with notable works such as the lifeguard stations along the coast and the Pavilion of São Cristóvão. His visionary project 'Rio do Futuro' proposed futuristic urban solutions for the city, reflecting his forward-thinking approach. Recently, his extensive collection of architectural documents and artifacts was donated to the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where it was declared of public and social interest.
