Shannon Knelsen

Shannon Knelsen is a health care management instructor who has taught in Ontario’s college system for nearly eight years. Recently, she has faced significant challenges due to a drastic decline in foreign student enrollment, which has led to widespread layoffs and program cuts across colleges. As a part-time instructor, she has seen her teaching opportunities dwindle, with three of her four employers no longer needing her services. Previously, she managed a busy schedule that included teaching multiple classes across various institutions, but the financial crisis in the college sector has left her scrambling to find new work, having applied for over 100 jobs with limited success. Knelsen has expressed concern about the impact of online learning on educational quality and the unrealistic expectations placed on international students pursuing careers in health care.
