Sherri Papini is a California woman who gained national attention in 2016 after faking her own kidnapping, claiming she had been abducted for 22 days. The incident sparked a massive search and investigation, only for it to be revealed that she had been staying with an ex-boyfriend during that time. After pleading guilty to charges of mail fraud and lying to a federal officer, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison, serving approximately 11 months before her release in 2023. Currently, she is back in court seeking visitation rights for her two children amid ongoing custody disputes with her ex-husband.
