Shilah

activist Uganda

Shilah is a 25-year-old Ugandan trans woman currently living in a shelter on the outskirts of Kampala, where she fears for her safety due to rampant homophobia and recent anti-LGBTQ laws in Uganda. Once a peer educator for opioid users, she was forced to flee her home after escalating violence against her and her partner. Now relying on sex work to survive, Shilah faces daily threats of violence, even from police, while navigating a society that has increasingly turned hostile towards LGBTQ individuals.
