Shlomo Venezia
Shlomo Venezia was a Holocaust survivor who became known for his poignant testimony as a member of the Sonderkommando at Auschwitz-Birkenau, where he was forced to assist in the horrific operations of the extermination camps. He was one of the few survivors of this group, which was comprised of Jewish prisoners tasked with the grim duty of disposing of the bodies of those murdered in gas chambers. For many years, he remained silent about his experiences, only breaking his silence in 1992. His insights and firsthand accounts have played a crucial role in combating Holocaust denial and preserving the memory of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust.
