Sifael Shuma (1925-2025) was a prominent Tanzanian educator and one of the last surviving participants of the historic soil mixing ceremony on April 26, 1964, symbolizing the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. As a dedicated teacher and principal, he served at Machame Secondary School for over three decades, inspiring generations of students in mathematics and English. His passing marked the end of an era for the four youths who participated in the ceremony, and he was remembered for his love of music and family.
