
Sigismund II Augustus
Sigismund II Augustus was the last Grand Duke of Lithuania and the first King of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, reigning from 1548 to 1572. He is often remembered for his efforts to strengthen the union between Poland and Lithuania and for his patronage of the arts and architecture, including the establishment of the Vilnius Arsenal, which was significant for military craftsmanship.
