Sima Wali (1951-2017) was an Afghan refugee and a prominent advocate for women's rights, recognized for her leadership as the president of the NGO Refugee Women in Development. She is credited with coining the term 'gender apartheid' in response to the Taliban's oppressive policies against women, particularly after their first takeover of Kabul in 1996.
